It is recommended that students acquire a copy of the textbook "Introduction to GPS: The Global Positioning System" by the author: Ahmed El-Rabbany. The book can be obtained from the publisher Artech House http://www.artechhouse.com/.
After attending this course you will be able to:
Distinguish between various datums and transform coordinates from one datum to another.
Estimate satellite positions using broadcast ephemeris.
Distinguish between various positioning modes.
Select appropriate types of GPS receivers for specific tasks.
Design a GPS survey for a specific task.
Collect and process GPS data.
Ahmed El-Rabbany, Ph.D., P.Eng., obtained his Ph.D. degree in GPS from the Department of Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering, University of New Brunswick. He has over 25 years of academic and industrial experience in the area of Geomatics Engineering. His particular areas of expertise include Global Positioning System (GPS), Estimation, Geodesy and Hydrographic Surveying. He taught Geomatics Engineering courses at both the University of New Brunswick and Ryerson University . He also gave short courses to a number of professional organizations and private companies worldwide, including the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors, the Saskatchewan Land Surveyors Association, IEEE, and others. Dr. El-Rabbany authored an easy-to-read GPS book, which received a 5-star rating on the Amazon website and was listed as a bestselling GPS book. He also published and presented over 170 journal and conference papers and presentations. Dr. El-Rabbany has been the Geodesy Councillor to the Canadian Institute of Geomatics since 1998 and the past Chair of its Toronto Branch.
