Lowering environmental impacts of buildings and construction is important way of contributing to sustainable development and economical growth in Canada. By attending this course, participants gain a working knowledge of the core concepts and strategies to achieve this objective. This course highlights how these core concepts and strategies can be used in various LEED® rating systems.
Building Green with LEED®: Core Concepts and Strategies is an intensive course intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the techniques, approaches, materials and technologies used in creating greener buildings and communities. It provides an introductory level of familiarity with the Rating System.
Course Objectives: This course introduces the fundamentals of the LEED® rating system. It will prepare participants to take the LEED® Green Associate exam*.
*Professionals in Canada, who intend to pursue a LEED® AP designation** and are not already a LEED® AP, must take the Green Associate exam as a first step.
** EPIC College will offer in the near future LEED Canada for New Construction 2009 course for those who are planning to take LEED® AP exam.
On completion of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand the imperative for a green transformation of our built environment
- Explain the key components of the LEED® rating system
- Apply core concepts and strategies to achieve success using the LEED® rating system
- Determine where different LEED® rating systems can be applied
- Architects/design professionals/interior designers/city planner
- Engineers/builders/contractors/real estate professionals
- Building owners/service providers/facility managers/developers
- Product manufacturers/government officials/educator
- Others who may wish to demonstrate their clients their familiarity with green building practices.
Participants will be provided with the most recent LEED® Core Concepts Guide. Other educational hand-outs will also be provided.

Nino Rico, OAA, MRAIC, LEED® AP, is principal of Nino Rico Architect, based in Toronto, and partner of LAD Canada International, an environmental design firm based in Shanghai. Nino Rico holds a bachelor of architecture with honours at the University of Rome, Italy, and a master in architecture at the university of Toronto. He has been in private practice since 1984 He has participated in several architectural and design exhibitions, and his designs have received recognition with architectural awards and publication in Canada and abroad. During his professional career, Nino Rico has developed considerable experience in ecological and environmental design and he is presently working on several “green” projects both in Canada and in China.

Five to fifteen business days in advance: non-refundable credit of equal value for any future EPIC seminar within one year. Credits are transferable within your organization. In case of an unexpected event occurring after this time, you may send someone else to take your place without any additional cost.
