Executive Summary
As the practice of project management becomes more pervasive within all industries, demand has grown for credentialing opportunities that recognize those working on projects. The ongoing success and demand of Project Management Professional (PMP®) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI®) geared toward experienced project managers has prompted PMI to recently develop the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) certification for project team members and entry-level project managers to validate their basic knowledge of project management.  This is an internationally recognized certificate which ensures common language, terminology, processes and methodology in projects.  This document identifies the value and the approach to obtain CAPM certification.

The value of CAPM
Organizations are increasingly adopting project management as a formal career path, and CAPM certification is a proactive way to develop competent project managers who will serve as tomorrow's star project performers.
Project teams that follow standard project management methodologies are more likely to meet their goals.  Such teams benefit from streamline communications, greater flexibility and overall more effective use of everyone€'s time.  This outcome is true in companies where project management practices have or have not been embraced as a strategic imperative, where workers can serve on project teams without formal project management training.  PMI's new CAPM credentialing program helps project teams function more efficiently by providing team members with the fundamental project management skills needed to standardize processes and communications.
The CAPM credential increases the holder€'s visibility on project teams, and signifies that the holder has the fundamental project management knowledge needed for effective project team performance. For these reasons, many employers feel that project team members who earn the CAPM credential are valuable to their organization.

CAPM growth
Since its release in 2004, more than 13000 people around the world have earned their CAPM credential.  Currently there are 31000 preparing to take the exam. Given the volume of interest, PMI is confident that the program€'s growth will continue, and will eventually outpace the growth of the PMP credential (currently over 202,000 PMP€'s worldwide).

Who should seek CAPM
Project team members and project support: The CAPM improves communications with colleagues by testing project management terminology and processes, and also elevates contributions to projects.
Entry-level project management practitioners: The CAPM differentiates you from your peers by demonstrating your command of project management terms and processes.

How to qualify
To earn the CAPM credential, CAPM candidates need to have completed a high school diploma (or global equivalent) and either 1,500 hours working on a project team OR 23 contact hours of formal project management education, and then pass a comprehensive 150-question computer-based examination.

How to prepare for the CAPM exam
To help qualified candidates prepare for PMI's CAPM exam, we have developed a 3 day exam preparation course, "CAPM Exam Review." The CAPM Exam Review course allows participants to fulfill the 23 hours of classroom instruction required to sit for the exam, and covers each of the nine knowledge areas and five process groups covered in PMI's A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) 3rd Edition.
Through lectures, practical exercises, and a CAPM exam simulation, participants will complete the course with a clear understanding of what they need to know to pass the CAPM certification examination. They will also have a familiarization with the elements of the PMBOK Guide 3rd edition, familiarity with the kinds of questions that will be asked on the exam, and knowledge about what to anticipate with the exam format.

The CAPM Exam prep course is uniquely designed for busy professionals to minimize the prep work required during both business and personal hours. Each student is provided with the knowledge and strategies required to write and pass the exam within 5 to 8 weeks from the course start date.  Based on €lessons learned€ we highly encourage all our aspiring CAPM students to schedule their exam within 2 to 8 weeks following the last in class session.

    * 3 highly concentrated exam simulators progressively increase your PMBOK"¢ knowledge and introduce you to the stress of time based exams just like the real CAPM Exam environment.  Each exam simulator (Baseline, Intermediate and Advanced levels provides an in-depth analysis of your results by €knowledge area€ and process group€ so students can focus their study efforts on their weaker knowledge areas.  Unlimited access to a database of 1,100 sample test questions with various tips and suggestions on how to analyze questions, select the best answer based on the PMI methodology and detailed supporting information for the best answer selected.

10 business day cancellation policy. if the course is confirmed and the student cancels within 10 days of the course, then they get charged and apply a credit for future courses. If they cancel outside of 10 business days, then there are no charges at all.

I realize that we are constantly dealing with technology, but I still think for a registration fee of almost $3,000, that a hardcover book should be included. I know that the option to print the book on a one-time basis exists.

This course provides an excellent overview and a bit of practice on the various functions of SharePoint 2013. I was disappointed at the number of exceedingly long breaks given after each module. I would have preferred less break time and more content to the course. Having never taken a SharePoint course with another provider, I don't know if this is the norm with all providers of just this one in particular.

I ranked the "Use of Technology" low because for Users who were remote the VM's that were setup were a little wonky. Could be very slow at times and then sometimes they needed to be refreshed to work properly with the lab. In some instances we couldn't follow along as replication would not occur fast enough and we would have our lab cut short (for us remote Users).

The trainer was excellent, very knowledgeable and had a lot of valuable experience to share. The problem was that there were way too many workshops that took too long and interfered with getting the maximum benefit from the instructor and the course.

This was quite informative. It was a great opportunity to have ‘real life’ discussions with certified PMs. The instructor had excellent examples and was able to share his PM experiences with us with concrete examples. In addition, this was a great opportunity to network with private sector/public sector PMs and develop a better appreciation of PM on both sides of the fence. Cheers, CL

As a remote attendee, it appeared the instructor paid attention to the "Attendee" and "Chat" windows only a few times throughout the day, so I was not confident that he would see if I sent a message or raised my hand during the course.

The room was excellent on its own - less distraction and no noise around you. There was no direction to the room when I walked in and therefore was not sure if I was heading in the right direction. We were not provided with the direction that there was coffee and fridge on the 3rd floor, and the bathroom floor was dirty.

The course content was interesting; however, the instructor didn't have enough knowledge about Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 Development and wasn't able to answer questions without google search. In the future CTE needs to make sure the instructors have real on-hands experience and are highly trained in the technologies they are supposed be teaching.
