Coaching is the quickest and most effective method of developing staff.
Good coaching and performance management leads to self-motivation and an attitude that is oriented towards solutions and continual improvement rather than problems and avoidance.
Coaching is also part of the new performance-led culture. It is an effective way for enabling an organization to meet competitive pressures, plan for succession and bring about change.
Coaching is based on a partnership that involves giving both support and challenging opportunities to employees. Knowing how and when to coach is an essential skill that can reap benefits throughout your professional life.
In this highly interactive workshop, participants will role-play and practice various coaching techniques as part of ctc TrainCanada's applied approach to learning.
Participants in this workshop will:
- Gain a thorough understanding how coaching can be used to develop your team.
- Develop the coaching skills that help improve individual performance.
- Demonstrate the behaviors and practices of an effective coach.
- Recognize employees' strengths and give them the feedback they need to succeed.
- Identify employee problems and ways you can help to correct them.
- Emerging leaders and managers responsible for the development of others
- Team leaders and supervisors who want to get the best out of their people
- Managers who want a structured and effective method of performing one on ones with staff
- Managers who want to develop their staff in their current role and also longer term
Introduction and Course Overview
You will spend the first part of the day getting to know participants and discussing what will take place during the workshop. Students will also have an opportunity to identify their personal learning objectives.
The first part of the morning will be spent exploring what coaching means (in general and to participants), reviewing coaching skills, and evaluating the pre-assignment.
Interpersonal Communication Skills
Communicating well is a key aspect of successful coaching. During this session, participants will explore different communication skills and create an action plan.
Joe Luft and Harry Ingraham developed the Johari windows concept, a way of looking at our self-awareness and our ability to ask feedback of others. This session will look at the window and examine how we can use it when coaching.
Critical Coaching Skills
Participants will examine important coaching skills in small groups, including helping, mentoring, teaching, and challenging skills.
More on Communication
This lecturette will examine two powerful, simple coaching tools: asking questions and listening.
Learning Styles and Principles
We learn in three different ways: by seeing, by hearing, and by doing. In a large group discussion, participants will identify ways to incorporate these methods into coaching.
During this session, we will examine a tool that coaches can use to help gain buy-in for change from employees.
Skills Involved in Coaching
Participants will work in small groups to complete a mix-and-match exercise that will familiarize them with key coaching skills.
The Coaching Model
This session will explore a four-step coaching model that can be applied to any situation.
Feedback is an essential component of coaching. You will discuss types of feedback and offer some tips in lecture format during this session.
To wrap up the day, participants will examine case studies and offer solutions.
At the end of the day, students will have an opportunity to ask questions and fill out an action plan.

We are unique in the corporate training field in that we do not cancel desktop applications courses due to low enrollment. When there are less than 3 students, ctc TrainCanada will personalize the class (students then receive more time with the instructor to address their individual needs allowing the student to complete the full course in less time) or connect the student remotely to a class at one of our other branches via TrainLive remote classroom instruction. *Microsoft Certified Courses and other technical courses require a minimum enrollment of three students. Business Skills courses require multiple students in order to run due to the interactive nature of the training. Selected Desktop Applications courses may require a minimum enrollment of two students to run. ctc TrainCanada® reserves the right to deliver Microsoft Certified and other technical courses via TrainLive remote classroom instruction in order to guarantee the course to run.
ctc TrainCanada Cancellation policy:
You may cancel or reschedule this registration in writing with no penalty with a minimum of 10 business days' notice prior to the first day of the course. Full payment is required if you cancel or reschedule this registration within 10 business days prior to the first day of the course. However, substitutions are welcome. If you do need to cancel or reschedule a publicly scheduled course within the 10 day non-cancellation period (not a client dedicated course), payment is to be made and a training voucher for a public course will be issued to you. This allows you to attend a future date for the same course at no charge (subject to availability).
No-shows will not be issued a training voucher.
