Who should attend this workshop
Senior managers who have to manage analysis and analysts and have to provide people with the skills to optimize their intellectual products.Course Objectives This workshop will provide an intensive review of the philosophical, psychological and analytical foundations of applied critical thinking. This will allow participants to recognize their own biases, and then develop the skills to compensate for these biases.
This workshop is structured to produce a method for the practical application of critical thinking in the workplace. It will take note of the pitfalls that management often succumbs to in the desire to attain specific objectives. It is intended to be much more strategic in scope as compared to Day One.
This overview of recent developments in Philosophy, Cognitive Science and Analysis will include Lessons on the following:
Lesson OneSummary and Conclusion
An overview on how to avoid the confirmation bias, and a look at the biases and heuristics in the Evaluation of Data, Evidence and Facts.
A look at the Biases and Heuristics of Causal Explanation. Definition of Causal Explanation as Necessary and Sufficient Causes. Illusory correlation.
A look at the biases of Availability, Representativesness and Probability Assessment. Also, there will be a session on the medical model of diagnosis and Analysis. There will be a video on Diagnostic Medicine.
Richards Heurer, Jr., and Analysis. The use of the Kahneman and Tversky research program to do Strategic and Tactical Analysis. Errors in judgments, including “9-11”, Challenger and Columbia, and Tenerife
