3:00pm -  Adjournment   Description Computer aided drawing and drafting (CADD) has become an essential skill for professionals working in architectural, mechanical, civil and other industries. AutoCAD is the most commonly used software for engineering drawing. It became so popular for its ease of use and learning.   It is apparent from market data that more employers are using CADD and need workers skilled in AutoCAD than any other CADD system.   We offer professional, hands-on training for the latest AutoCAD version, for those who need it to do their job properly and efficiently. The course is designed on a friendly basis to make it convenient for participants from various levels and backgrounds. We start with quick MS Windows refresher and work all the way to cover basic topics stated in the course contents.   Course Overview
The course takes a step-by-step approach to learning the basic tools associated with this level of AutoCAD. We start with a few ones to allow participants create and edit simple drawings, then gradually introduce more advanced tools. Examples and practice drawings are adopted from a variety of applications. Participants are also encouraged to bring examples from their own fields to get acquainted with the software.   Topics covered include basic 2D drawing and editing tools, objects, layers, text addition, and basic dimensioning. Once the participants feel confident in the basic skills, other topics will be covered, such as efficiency tools, complex objects, external referencing, advanced plotting and the like.
Target Audience
This course is designed for professionals in skilled trades and engineers. It is also suitable for people working in facilities planning and office management. No previous experience in engineering drawing is needed. Basic skills in using computers are expected. Nonetheless, we will give a quick overview of the popular MS Windows.
Regular attendance is important, since topics are arranged in a systematic manner to build organized knowledge blocks and ensure all participants are progressing at close pace.   Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:
  • Create accurate engineering drawings
  • Communicate properly (reading and interpreting) prepared drawings
  • Add different finishes to technical drawings, such as symbols, dimensions and legends

Project 4: Annotating and Setting up a Drawing       Instructor
Nedam Abed holds a Ph. D. degree in Materials Engineering from the University of British Columbia. He is also a registered professional engineer (P. Eng.) in the Province of Alberta (APEGGA). Dr. Abed has more than 10 years of mixed industrial, consulting and academic experience at various Canadian organizations.   He has been teaching various core engineering courses in the past 10 years, including engineering graphics and design. Dr. Abed is well-versed in various engineering drawing software, such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks. Dr. Abed believes that the best method of learning is getting attendees to have hands-on experience during the course offering. As such, he always encourages active and creative participation from attendees.

Cancellation Policy
If you wish to withdraw from a course, you must advise us, in writing, including the official receipt. Our policies regarding refund are:

More than fifteen business days in advance: a full refund minus $50.00 administration charge.

Fifteen or less business days in advance: a transfer to another course or a credit, valid for one year, to another GIC course can be considered. Credits are transferable within your organization.

If the course has been running for more than 2 weeks, or after the course has started, an 80% credit towards another GIC course may be considered, if notice is received before the start date of the second session. After this time, no refunds or credits will be issued. If a speaker is not available due to unforeseen circumstances, another speaker of equal ability will be substituted.

GIC reserves the right to cancel or change the date or location of its events. GIC's responsibility will, under no circumstances, exceed the amount of the fee collected. GIC is not responsible for the purchase of non-refundable travel arrangements or accommodations or the cancellation/change fees associated with cancelling them. Please call to confirm that the course is running before confirming travel arrangements and accommodations.

Refund Policy: Allow up to 30 days for refunds to be processed.
