Course Outline

Course Length: 6 hours

Performance reviews are an essential component of employee development. The performance review meeting is an important aspect of career planning, an opportunity to deepen trust and focus on the growth of the employee.

Setting goals and objectives to aim for will give both managers and employees a focus and is one of the key aspects to meeting overall company objectives. Managers must also learn how to give feedback, both positive and constructive, on a regular and timely basis so that employees can grow and develop. Performance reviews done well encompass all of this.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
- Recognize the importance of having a performance review process for employees.
- Understand how to work with employees to set performance standards and goals.
- Develop skills in observing, giving feedback, listening, and asking questions.
- Identify an effective interview process and have the opportunity to practice the process in a supportive atmosphere.

Target Student:

This class is for managers and organizations looking to create a calibrated performance review process that includes providing feedback, goal setting and expectations for their employees. Performance reviews are an essential part of employee development and can be stressful for all involved. If your desire is to help your employees set goals and objectives, this course is for you. I think I underestimated my own knowledge of the program. This is not necessarily at the fault of the course or training provider.
I found the instructor very informative and she addressed all of my questions and concerns.

Too much information in one day - instructor had to race through material, skipping some of it entirely. Start delayed by 20 minutes due to course material not having been properly loaded on computers. These issues continued throughout class, ie some of my important menu tabs were in french, others in english. I had requested an English class. Another student had Excel 2007 instead of Excel 2010, when the rest of us and the instructor were working with 2010. I would have liked to continue to 4:00, but the instructor made it clear that her preference was to leave at 3:30, so no one said anything. The windows had to be opened because the room was too warm, but the people next to the windows were wearing their coats because they were too cold.
