Course objectives

By the end of this course, you should be able to import, touch-up and export photos for various outputs such as print, web, PDF etc.

Unit 1 - Discovering Photoshop

By the end of this unit, you should be able to:

• Define pixel graphics
• Manipulate Photoshop interface and preferences
• Determine pixel, resolution and re-sampling
• Navigate pictures
• Use Adobe Bridge and browser

Unit 2 - Selection tools and their properties

By the end of this unit, you should be able to:

• Use selection tools
• Add and subtract selections
• Identify Photoshop shortcuts
• Use anti-aliasing and feathering using refine edge

Unit 3 - Layers

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Work with smart objects, video layers and 3D layers
• Use layers and layer styles
• Modify layer opacity and use transparency effects
• Use the transform tools

Unit 4 - Brushes and gradients

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Work with various brush tools (create, delete, modify)
• Create gradient effects
• Work with the eraser tool

Unit 5 - All about colours

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Identify the different colour modes (RGB, CMYK, LAB, WEB, Indexed, Duotone)
• Use colour swatches (create, import, save)
• Replace colour

Unit 6 - Mask

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Work with the quick mask
• Make a layer mask
• Edit, delete, and add a layer mask

Unit 7 - Typography and shapes

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Use the type tool, format and its properties
• Apply text effects such as emboss, bevel, shadow, and glow
• Use replace colour
• Work with vector shapes

Unit 8 - Basic colour correction and filters

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Work with levels
• Colour correct pictures using colour balance
• Set hue, saturation and brightness
• Use basic filters such as sharpen, blur, and liquefy

Unit 9 - Basic photo touch-ups

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Work with the dodge, burn and sponge tools
• Use the blur and smudge tools
• Use the clone and healing tools

Unit 10 - Exporting images

By the end of this unit, you should be able:

• Save Photoshop files
• Set export formats and properties
• Tips and tricks

Teaching method

The concepts will be presented by your instructor and procedures will be demonstrated step-by-step. This will be followed up by practical exercises where you will be able to apply your newly acquired skills with the guidance of your instructor.
