This three-day instructor-led course provides students with the knowledge and skills to work with the new technologies in Windows Vista and Windows 7 Beta. This course is intended for individuals who already have experience with Windows XP to upgrade their skills to Windows 7 Beta.

Audience Profile This course is intended for IT professionals who generally perform desktop support for Windows computers. Typical duties for IT professionals include user support, desktop configuration, and desktop troubleshooting. They will be particularly interested in the new features of Windows 7 Beta and how the changes affect Windows security, reliability, performance, productivity and manageability.

At Course Completion After completing this course, students will be able to:
    * Manage the desktop settings that personalize the computing experience.
    * Describe how Windows 7 Beta Search enhancements improve productivity.
    * Implement Search Federation to search remote data sources within the enterprise infrastructure.
    * Describe the new Group Policy Preferences and Administrative Templates that are available to IT professionals who manage Group Policy Objects.
    * Describe how IT professionals use the Group Policy Management Console to create scripts that manage Group Policy Objects.
    * Identify and use the improvements made to the latest version of PowerShell.
    * Describe how DirectAccess  enables IT professionals to remotely manage and update user PCs.
    * Describe the platform and network requirements necessary to implement DirectAccess.
    * Describe the VPN reconnection features and the platform and network requirements.
    * Illustrate how to use Group Policy to prevent specific types of files from being synchronized to the server.
    * Describe how BranchCache improves user productivity in branch offices by caching content from remote file and Web servers in branch locations.
    * Administer new User Account Control security settings to improve the end-user computing experience.
    * Describe how AppLocker enables IT Professionals to specify the programs that are allowed to run on user desktops.
    * Describe how Windows 7 Beta improves upon the firewall policy by allowing IT professionals to identify multiple active firewall profiles.
    * Describe new Windows 7 Beta features as they relate to Windows Deployment Services and virtualization.
    * Explain how the Problem Steps Recorder can be used to reproduce and record experiences with an application failure.
    * Summarize key components of the Windows Troubleshooting Platform and run the troubleshooting wizard from the Start menu for a specific problem.
    * Identify how unified tracing provides IT professionals with a single tool for troubleshooting issues in the Windows 7 Beta networking stack.
    * Describe how Windows Management Instrumentation provides IT professionals with programmatic access to reliability data, enabling them to check stability status and review recent events remotely.
    * Describe how to use the Device Manager and Devices and Printers to manage devices.
      
Course Outline Module 1: Introduction to User Productivity Enhancements This module introduces the key enhancements included in Windows 7 Beta, including improvements to desktop controls and Search functionality, and the addition of the new Search Federation functionality.

After completing this module, students will be able to:
    * Manage the desktop settings that personalize the computing experience.
    * Describe how Windows 7 Beta Search enhancements improve productivity.
    * Implement Search Federation to search remote data sources within the enterprise infrastructure.

Module 2: Managing Desktop Configurations This module reviews the enhancements made in Windows 7 Beta that enable IT professionals to more effectively manage desktops and mobile PCs.

    * Identify and use the improvements made to the latest Windows PowerShell version.

Module 3: Introduction to Remote Access This module describes how Windows 7 Beta makes it easier for users to get connected and stay connected regardless of location or type of network.

After completing this module, students will be able to:
    * Describe how DirectAccess enables IT professionals to remotely manage and update user PCs.
    * Identify the platform and network requirements necessary to implement DirectAccess.
    * Describe the steps for installing DirectAccess.
    * Describe the steps for configuring and enabling DirectAccess.
    * Describe the VPN reconnection features and the platform and network requirements.
    * Describe how BranchCache improves user productivity in branch offices by caching content from remote file and Web servers in branch locations.

Module 4: Introduction to Windows 7 Beta Security Components This module examines how Windows 7 Beta improves upon the security lineage of Windows Vista by making security features more useable and manageable, by protecting data on PCs and devices, and by enabling IT professionals to specify exactly what is to run on user desktops.

    * Administer new User Account Control security settings to improve the end-user computing experience.
    * Describe BitLocker and how BitLocker to Go gives system administrators control over protection for removable storage devices.
    * Describe the new Group Policy Preferences and Administrative Templates that are available to IT professionals who manage Group Policy Objects.
    * Identify how IT professionals can use Windows Defender to prevent spyware and potentially unwanted software from infecting computers.
    * Describe how Windows 7 Beta improves upon the firewall policy by allowing IT professionals to identify multiple active firewall profiles.

Module 5: Deploying Windows 7 Beta Images This module examines the Windows 7 Beta system imaging tools that enable IT professionals to manage operating system images using a single, consolidated tool-set, improve system image delivery over the network, and reduce image sizes.

    * Describe how Dynamics Driver Provisioning in Windows 7 Beta allows IT professionals to reduce the size of system images.
    * Describe how Multicast Multiple Stream Transfer helps ensure the fastest possible overall transfer rate.
    * Describe how the VHD Boot feature of Windows 7 Beta helps ease the transition between virtual and physical environments.

Module 6: Troubleshooting in Windows 7 Beta This module examines the new troubleshooting capabilities in Windows 7 Beta that provide IT professionals the tools they need to resolve issues quickly without having to call the help desk.

* Before attending this course, students must have: One year experience installing, configuring, and supporting Windows XP desktop operating systems.

I realize that we are constantly dealing with technology, but I still think for a registration fee of almost $3,000, that a hardcover book should be included. I know that the option to print the book on a one-time basis exists.

This course provides an excellent overview and a bit of practice on the various functions of SharePoint 2013. I was disappointed at the number of exceedingly long breaks given after each module. I would have preferred less break time and more content to the course. Having never taken a SharePoint course with another provider, I don't know if this is the norm with all providers of just this one in particular.

I ranked the "Use of Technology" low because for Users who were remote the VM's that were setup were a little wonky. Could be very slow at times and then sometimes they needed to be refreshed to work properly with the lab. In some instances we couldn't follow along as replication would not occur fast enough and we would have our lab cut short (for us remote Users).

The trainer was excellent, very knowledgeable and had a lot of valuable experience to share. The problem was that there were way too many workshops that took too long and interfered with getting the maximum benefit from the instructor and the course.

This was quite informative. It was a great opportunity to have ‘real life’ discussions with certified PMs. The instructor had excellent examples and was able to share his PM experiences with us with concrete examples. In addition, this was a great opportunity to network with private sector/public sector PMs and develop a better appreciation of PM on both sides of the fence. Cheers, CL

As a remote attendee, it appeared the instructor paid attention to the "Attendee" and "Chat" windows only a few times throughout the day, so I was not confident that he would see if I sent a message or raised my hand during the course.

The room was excellent on its own - less distraction and no noise around you. There was no direction to the room when I walked in and therefore was not sure if I was heading in the right direction. We were not provided with the direction that there was coffee and fridge on the 3rd floor, and the bathroom floor was dirty.

The course content was interesting; however, the instructor didn't have enough knowledge about Microsoft Sharepoint 2010 Development and wasn't able to answer questions without google search. In the future CTE needs to make sure the instructors have real on-hands experience and are highly trained in the technologies they are supposed be teaching.
